In solidarity with young Sorbians
The Youth of European Nationalities supports and follows our member organisation Serbske młodźinske towarstwo Pawk z. t. in strongly condemning the anti-Sorbian attacks of last Saturday. During a celebration of the Sorbian High School Bautzen in the small village of Schönau, verbal and physical clashes between a group of neo-Nazis and individual Sorbs occurred in the parking lot of the venue. A car was slightly damaged, three youths between 20 and 21 years old filed a criminal complaint. The State Security Service has started the investigation.
Unfortunately this is not the first time that young Sorbs have been attacked and injured during their events. In the past years this happened again and again. We therefore demand that state institutions investigate the incidents as quickly as possible and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In addition, we demand that everything possible be done to prevent and stop such attacks in the future.
Every Sorbian, every person identifying with a minority, every human being, has the right to live their language and culture freely. We do not tolerate the suppression or neglect of this right in any way. Discrimination and attacks on members of minorities are not acceptable and should have no place in our society.
We stand in solidarity with all young Sorbians and support them in ensuring access to their minority and human rights.
